Varun Thakur is a shattered man. Within a span of roughly one hour, he lost his younger child. His 7-year-old son was found dead inside the toilet of Ryan International School in Gurugram.
This is not the first time Ryan International School has witnessed such a brutal incident inside their campus. Last year, the school hit national headlines after body of a class I student was found inside the tank at the school. However, it must be noted that the 2016 incident took place in a different campus in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area.
Ryan International Schools is a group of private educational institutions located in India and abroad. At present, the group has 304 schools across 18 states in the country and 43 outside India.
Last year, a six-year-old student Devansh Meena went missing on January 30 after taking part in a poetry competition. Nobody questioned his disappearance, it was only hours later, an electrician found his body inside the water tank in the school campus. He was immediately rushed to the AIIMS where he was declared brought dead.
The incident was widely reported in the media raising eyebrows over children's safety in the school. The school authorities were criticised for their negligence on the matter and allegedly trying to cover up the heinous incident.
The father of the student made strong claims that his son was sexually assaulted before he was murdered. He also claimed that Ryan principal had threatened his family to keep mum about the matter.
According to an Indian Express report, Ramheet Meena, the victim's father had said, “I saw the body. There were some injury marks and cotton on his private parts. The principal has been threatening me since the beginning, saying that keeping quiet will be good for me.” “He was done to death,” Meena was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
The police had held the principal and class teacher responsible for the incident and had booked them for negligence in the matter.
It seems like Ryan International School have still not learnt their lesson. A year later, another boy was found brutally murdered inside the Gurugram campus of the school.
Two CCTV cameras were installed near the washroom, but sources say they were not working .
The truth behind deaths of both Devansh and Pradhuman is still not clear. With police still trying to piece together the puzzle, the parents can only hope for justice in the end.
