A 32-year-old Russian woman who was brought to Goa Medical College for medical examination to ascertain her claim of molestation was touched inappropriately by the male doctor despite her protest, interpretor accompanying the foreign national has told investigators. "The victim told me in Russian that she felt more violated by the doctor than by what had happened at Baga beach," the interpreter told the collector probing the incident The Russian national, who was on a holiday trip to Goa, allegedly faced the ordeal of molestation twice over two days, first by an unknown person on Baga beach on October 17 and at the state-run GMCH the next day.

The state government had launched an inquiry into the allegations through North District collector. The witness, who accompanied the victim to GMCH, narrated the sequence of event to the collector in a statement on Saturday.

She told the collector that the first medical examination of the Russian woman at GMCH was conducted by a lady doctor without touching her private parts. "But, suddenly, a male doctor came with two women doctors and asked me what had happened. I explained again to him that she (the Russian woman) had been injured in the neck," the interpreter, whose name has been withheld on request, told the Collector in a statement, copy of which is available with PTI.

"The doctor asked me again what had happened and I explained this to him three times. Then the male doctor said he will have to examine her (the Russian woman) and asked her to be topless," she said. The victim was shocked why she was asked to remove her top when the female doctor had earlier informed that it was not required. "The victim did not want to remove her top so the male doctor asked his female counterpart to remove it, which she did. Then the male doctor suddenly put both his hands on private parts of the victim," says the statement. "The victim protested and said to me in Russian why is he (the male doctor) is doing this when there is no injury on private parts. I had no reply as it happened suddenly and I thought that this was a normal medical procedure," the witness said.

As per the statement, the doctor tried to molest the Russian further when he called her for a gynaecological examination, saying that police wanted it. Police had referred the woman to GMCH after she approached them for registering an FIR into Baga beach case.

The witness claimed that the doctor tried to administer an injection to the victim, saying that a gynaecological examination is needed because police wanted it. "When the victim protested that she will not undergo gynaecological examination because she did not have any injury on her private parts, we were sent to another room with a lady constable," the statement said. "When the victim firmly refused for gynaecological examination, he (the doctor) said that in that case he would write the report that the examination was refused by the victim," the witness said in the statement.

Police have registered a case on the complaint of the Russian woman, hailing from Minsk who has already left India, in connection with the Baga beach incident.
