Rumours of cloud burst post Pune landslide false, says Met department

After the landslide near Pune, floods in Mumbai and cloud burst in Uttarakhand, rumors are starting to peak among citizens. The following message is being circulating since morning asking people to take precautions. "Red alert by AMC - Ahmedabad, Surat, Badoda, Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik are about to face highest rainfall ever in next 24 hours. Please avoid long distance journeys. There is a possibility of cloud burst. Pass it on to maximum people."

The Indian Meteorology Department officials deny any chances of cloud burst in Pune - Mumbai regions and have clarified that all these messages are rumors.

According to the IMD duty officer, "There is only moderate to heavy rains predicted for both the regions and there is no chance of any cloud burst. We have been getting these messages and calls asking clarifications for the same."

The Met department has asked people to not believe in rumors and if there is any red alert it will be announced on our websites and informed to the press as well.
