The western Maharashtra unit of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is gearing up for its biggest show of strength – on the outskirts of Pune. covering three villages. Called ShivShakti Sangam, the convention will look at the work done by the RSS in pursuing the Hindavi Swaraj dream cherished by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and review the activities of the western Maharashtra unit, which is organising the event. One lakh Swayamsevaks will attend the convention.

Western Maharashtra is considered to be a bastion of the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which dominate the region through its network of cooperatives. Though the BJP has won 44 assembly seats in Vidarbha, it does not enjoy a good presence in western Maharashtra. Already, 8,000 workers are on the ground to make the convention a success. The main dais will be 80-foot tall, 200-ft long and 100-ft wide, with a special elevator. The star attraction of the day-long convention on January 3,2016, will be RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. He is expected to give a 50-minute-long address.

There's a touch of Bollywood, too. Art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai has designed the stage, which would resemble the look of a fort. Bhagwat is also likely to touch upon the challenges and the relevance of RSS today.
There would be 13 entry gates. A performance by an RSS band squad, with 1,500 members, and a group song, specially composed for the Shiv Shakti Sangam, by 1 lakh Swayamsevaks, are the other highlights.

There would also be an exhibition.

The guest list

Union and state cabinet ministers who hail from western Maharashtra would attend the convention in RSS attire. They include Girish Bapat, Chandrakant Patil, Ram Shinde and Girish Mahajan and Prakash Javadekar. Those who are not from western Maharashtra like Union minister Nitin Gadkari and chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would be guests.
