The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), it seems, is all set to make political hay out of the prevailing political mood in Tamil Nadu. Taking a cue from the pro-jallikattu agitation, which struck a chord with people at large, the organisation will demand preserving of indigenous cow breeds at its three-day Akhil Bharat Prathinithi Sabha (ABPS) meeting, which will begin at Amrita University on Sunday.

Though RSS championing the cause of cow is a known factor, the news conference here on Saturday saw them speaking on indigenous cow breeds' A2 type milk. Jallikattu uprising, witnessed across the state with its epicentre in Marina Beach in January, had seen demands from protecting native breeds cows that give A2 type milk.

"The importance of Indian breed cows and its milk, urine and dung is increasing. It has been proved that it contains medicinal values. A2 type of milk is only obtained from Indian breed cows. Indian breed cows are being exported to New Zealand, Brazil and Australia. So nurturing and improving Indian breed cows is going around for the last seven to eight years. We discussed the achievements and experiments on this issue," RSS spokesperson Manmohan Vaidya told reporters here.

Vaidya said that the ABPS meeting would be inaugurated by RSS General Secretary Suresh Bhaiyya Joshi in the presence of Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat.

Political observers feel that the timing and venue of the RSS meeting indicate its intention to create inroads into southern states where the BJP has no big presence. The political vacuum created by the demise of late chief minster and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa has given scope for the BJP to create a strong foothold in the state. In the neighbouring Kerala, RSS wants to make the issue of its age-old turf war with the CPM in Kannur district, that had led to several political murders, into a national issue.
