Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas (SSUN), an RSS outfit, on Monday proposed introduction of vedic maths in schools across the country and effective implementation of the three language formula across all states.

The Dinanath Batra-headed body favoured incorporating vedic maths along with regular mathematics courses in classes so as to improve the level of "competency" among students in the subject. "We have prepared a syllabus on vedic maths and have reached out to a few private schools across the country including a school in Delhi to impart it in classes," secretary of the body Atul Kothari said.

"We also propose to highlight vedic maths and its relevance for students during the discussion stage for drafting the national education policy," he told reporters, adding, vedic maths increases the capacity to crack sums with ease and enhance the level of competence. Asked if they intend to introduce the syllabus in schools across the country, he replied in the affirmative.

An MoU has also been signed with four universities to offer the programme and award certificates to students. Turning his attention to the three language formula, he favoured a broader consensus among states for its effective implementation. At present, it is not being stricly adhered to in several states and in schools.

Laying thrust on increased use of regional language, SSUN had passed a resolution at its national workshop in Ernakulam last month, stressing on the use of local language in educational institutes and in court rooms. Use of regional language has also been strongly suggested in IT and related fields too and in products avaialble commercially in markets.

Kothari proposed a 'Bharatiya Bhasha Manch' for increased use of regional languages. Lauding the government's decision to remove compulsory English section in UPSC CSAT paper, Kothari, though, raised concern over the compulsory English paper in the Mains examination.

He demanded that the central government should form a committee for comprehensive review of every step of UPSC examination such as prelims, mains and inteview. "Injustice towards candidates from regional languages in the interview and faulty translation of Hindi paper have raised a lot of doubts on the whole examination process," he said.
