After taking on the CPM-led Left government in Kerala over increased attacks on its activists, Rashtriya Swaymsevak Sangh (RSS) has turned its attention towards the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal. It claims the Mamata government remains a mute spectator to attacks unleashed by Islamic fundamentalists on Hindus in the state and continues appeasement of 'jihadis'.

RSS Joint General Secretary Bhagaiah said the Akhila Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision-making body of the RSS will debate the issue of alleged "terror being unleashed" by Islamic fundamentalists in West Bengal for the last three years. On Sunday, the annual meeting of the RSS's national council began at Coimbatore, presided by its general secretary Suresh Joshi under the auspicious presence of RSS Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat.

A resolution will be adopted after debating the issue during the three-day RSS meet. It will be sent to the Centre for them to take steps to prevent 'jihadi' attacks on society, and to pressurise the West Bengal Government to rein in the fundamentalists, Bhagwat said.

He alleged that the TMC government was inactive and had remained a mute spectator of the attacks. "Instead of protecting society and people from the terrorists, it is "indulging" in appeasing jihadis," he said. The jihadis had gone to the extent of forcing people not to celebrate Saraswati Pooja in that state, and instead had compelled them to celebrate Milad Un Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, he alleged. He added that they had also burnt a police station.

"When the Left front was in power, the organisations came under attack. After the CPI (M)'s defeat, there were two years of TMC democracy. But for the last three years, they have started murdering and looting," he said.

The RSS, in its annual report for 2016-17, has praised the Narendra Modi government's surgical strike and demonetization move. "We have witnessed a different India after this. It is true that common people face difficulties, which is natural, but they have shown immense restraint, patience, and patriotism which is commendable. The move taken to curb black money, fake currency, and problems created by terrorists using their money power, was in the right direction and must be welcomed and lauded. Only time will reveal the efficacy of this decision," it said. Speaking on the surgical strike, it said that through the strike, the government has used its strategic expertise to the highest possible level so that Indian soldiers returned successfully after completely destroying terrorist hideouts inside the Pakistan border.
