RSS-affiliated economic body Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has sought a separate "Chinese cell" at the Centre to assess the economic damage caused by Chinese imports to India and deliberate on the possible ways to nullify them.

Upping its ante against Chinese goods, it has also organised a mega rally towards the month end seeking boycott of Chinese goods by people in national interest and urging the government to adopt policies helping the domestic industries. SJM has been advocating indigenous production and has campaigned against purchase of Chinese firecrackers ahead of Diwali.

Dr Ashwani Mahajan, co-convenor of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch told DNA that he had sought the establishment of the Chinese cell in the Ministry of Commerce from the Centre that will not just study the impact of Chinese imports in the domestic market, but also chalk out a plan to mend the "injury." He added that he is hoping that the cell would come up soon.

"Indians understand the importance of boycotting Chinese products. The government is also realising the damage caused by Chinese imports and hence at its end, taking several initiatives on its end to control the influx of Chinese goods. The Chinese cell will help in a concrete assessment," Mahajan said.

He added that the anti-dumping duty on several Chinese products is already in effect and around 40 more are in the pipeline. This includes recent notifications on products like tempered glass and imports of certain steel wire rods for five years.

Mahajan said different ministries are also working on a way to bar participation of Chinese companies in certain bids of sectors, where Indian companies are not allowed to participate in China.
