Rs 89 crore disbursed as relief among Jammu and Kashmir flood victims

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said Rs 89 crore have so far been disbursed as interim relief amongst the families whose houses have been totally collapsed in the devastating floods last month.

"The process of distributing interim relief to the affected families is on full swing. As many as 2,849 families of Srinagar district who lost their houses totally in the deluge have been provided interim relief, taking the number of such families across the valley to 7,000," an official spokesman said.

He said the information was given at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. The meeting was convened by the Chief Minister to receive the appraisal of follow-up actions on the decisions taken to fast track the relief and rehabilitation process, the spokesman said.

He said the meeting was informed that 99% power supply has been restored and systems have been made functional. However, the spokesman said faults may occur in the supply sometimes due to ongoing repairs.

He said out of 228 sub-stations of 66-33/11-6.6 KV, as many as, 226 have been restored in the Valley while as all the 257 such stations in Jammu are functional. Out of the total of 4,686 kilometres of 33 KV lines, as many as, 4665 kilometres have been restored completely while 31,493 kilometres of 11 KV lines have been restored out of the total of 31,522 kilometres, the spokesman said.

He said out of the total number of 46,946 distribution transformers, 46,753 have been made functional. The meeting was informed that over 50,000 tonnes of muck, garbage and debris have been removed from various areas of the valley so far, the spokesman said.

Receiving brief on the procurement of prefabricated shelters, he said the Chief Minister was informed that two organisations in this field have been contacted and the arrangements will be finalised shortly.
