RPF cop unites Russian with his backpack a year after its loss

The only clue the RPF had was that the documents found in the bag were in Russian language.

Vinod Kumar P, a Railway Protection Force inspector from Karwar on Konkan Railway has received praise from his peers and superiors for going out of the way of duty to ensure that a foreign national who had lost his luggage early last year finally got it back.

According to officials, on February 13, 2015 one unclaimed backpack bag was found in Coach NO. B-2 of Train No. 16333, Veraval-Trivandrum Exp. by on duty RPF staff of Karwar. The bag contained valuable items like Samsung Laptop, Lumix digital camera and its lenses, Indian currency Rs. 15,000/-, Turkish money 2,680, and other electronic items.The only clue the RPF had was that the documents found in the bag were in Russian language.

“After taking over the charge Karwar RPF post, inspector Vinod Kumar P, took interest in tracing the passenger. In May 2015, he showed these documents to one of his friend Mr Shajan who was in Russia and available in Kerala on leave. Mr. Shajan immediately contacted on one of the number found in the diary and enquired in Russian language about loss of his any valuable items in India,” said Siddheshwar Telugu, chief spokesperson KR.

The person disclosed his identity as Mr. Dimitri Koniev and further revealed that on February last year he had lost his bag at Madgaon station while travelling in train No.16333 along with companion and kids.

“Mr Shajan informed him that his items were safely kept at RPF post, Karwar and that he could collect it whenever he was in the country," said Telugu.

Finally on Tuesday, January 5, 2016,  Koniev along with his companion approached Karwar RPF and got his lost baggage back.
