"Such incidents are happening repeatedly. The government must act and punish the culprits as soon as possible. The law should be stricter in order to stop such incidents from happening. This is a hateful act against women," said DCW chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh.
Meanwhile, social activist Annie Raja too condemned the incident and said that it was ironic that a place like Haryana, where the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" was launched is reporting such crimes. "It is shocking to hear such incidents taking place everyday. It is ironic as Haryana is the place where 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' started and now there are reports of such brutal crimes coming out. We condemn it in the strongest possible words," said Raja.
In yet another heinous incident, a 28-year-old mentally-challenged woman was brutally raped and murdered and her body dumped in a field at a village on the Rohtak-Hisar highway here, police said on Sunday.
The deceased had been residing with her sister for the past three months and was undergoing treatment at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here, they said.
The victim's sister had lodged a complaint with police on February 1 and on February 4, the woman's body was recovered from the fields in Akbarpur village with several injury marks on it, Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashank Anand said.
Meanwhile, Haryana police has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of accused, officials said. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to crack the case, the SP said.
The post-mortem report of the woman mentioned several injuries on her private parts, doctors of PGIMS said, adding that stones and blades were also found in her body. The body was decoid of key organs, say reports. It was difficult to recognise her body since wild animals had attacked her face.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday condemned the incident and accused the state government of lawlessness in Haryana.
