In an apparent case of road rage, a 22-year-old tempo driver was allegedly run over by a truck driver in Vivek area of east Delhi on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Mohammad Mursaleen (24), was thrashed by locals on the spot, and later handed over to the police.

According to the police, the deceased Ajit was travelling in a loaded tempo when Mursaleen's truck hit his vehicle from behind following which they got into a verbal spat. After the scuffle, Ajit climbed up to the door of the accused's truck and demanded money for damages caused to his vehicle.

"At that very moment, the traffic signal turned green and the truck driver started his vehicle. It is not clear whether Ajit was thrown off the truck after being hit by the driver intentionally or accidentally. The probe is on," said a police official. Ajit was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

A case has been registered against the truck driver, the official added.
