The messages sent by TERI chief R K Pachauri to a former colleague show how he haunted and stalked her with messages over a period of almost two years. In the charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police on March 4, the messages attached range from creepy to disturbing and some are downright explicit.

Running 1,467 pages long, the charge sheet contains 41 pages of the original charge sheet, 33 pages of the complaint, 61 pages of the recorded statement, and 126 pages of the call detail records among other evidence.

The police stated that documents containing messages, Whatsapp, call details have been filed with the courts that back up the victim's claim of sexual harassment. Statements of 23 witnesses were taken, in which at least two friends have corroborated the victim's experience with Pachauri. According to a friend's statement, the "accused used to harass her (the victim) by sending emails, calls, SMS and calling her with sexually coloured remarks and also insisted for her to respond." The statement went on to add that, "emails and messages were quite disturbing as they had words like "Meri Jaan" and "I love you." He (Pachauri) went on to use explicit "words which are totally unacceptable," the friend said.

In her deposition the victim has consistently claimed how the accused persistently pressurised her to drink with him and made vulgar statements to her in Hindi on various international work trips (27 in all) she took with him. The statement recorded under section 164 Cr.PC indicates that the accused "has hugged, kissed, held her hand without her wish/consent." In her statement the victim also emphasised how she told him (Pachauri) that she found his behaviour "unacceptable."

After investigating the call records of the respective phone numbers, submitted by the telephone service providers, the police claimed, "Pachauri was in constant touch with the complainant." Pachauri made "several calls SMSes etc during late night hours ie SMS on 16.03.14 at 02:36:30 am and call on 04:03:14 at 00:03:49 am etc."

Excerpts of the Whatsapp messages, poems and emails sent by Pachauri were also attached in the 41 page original charge sheet. Most messages started with "Dearest Meri Jaan" and one example of the message read: "Well the truth is that I have never felt so overwhelmingly in love as I have been with you, and even though you gave me so much pain, I will always be your well-wisher and carry beautiful memories of the joyous moments between us, limited as they might have been."

Throughout her tenure at TERI, the victim claimed she would be asked to enter Pachauri's office on various pretexts after office hours. It got to a point where the victim said she took to avoiding meeting him (Pachauri). According to the statement, when the victim told another female colleague about Pachauri's advances, she was told "Pachauri is like this only."

The statement is a record of the victim's ordeal and harrowing journey during her short-lived tenure at TERI. According to the deposition, Pachauri threatened the complainant with "dire consequences" with respect to her job when she "did not fulfill his wishes."
