The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Tuesday relented and agreed to the Congress party's demand to contest the Bhabhua assembly seat for the March 11 bypolls, after Congress Legislature Party leader Sadanand Singh put his foot down and said the party would field a candidate no matter what.

Bypolls for three seats, one Lok Sabha (Araria) and two Vidhan Sabha (Bhabhua and Jehanabad), will be held on March 11.

They were vacated following the demise of RJD's Taslimuddin and Mundrika Yadav representing Araria and Jehanabad respectively, and BJP's Anand Bhushan Pandey representing Bhabhua.

The seat sharing agreement of 2:1 was announced at a joint news meet by RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president in charge Kaukab Quadri at the RJD Headquarters.

"There is no rift in the Mahagathbandhan. We will contest together and win the by-polls," Yadav said.

The RJD also announced that it will field Taslimuddin's son Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam from the Araria Lok Sabha constituency. Alam had resigned as the JD (U) MLA from Jokihat on February 10 and joined the RJD the same day.
The party said it will field Suday Yadav from Jehanabad assembly seat, which is a bone of contention among the NDA constituents too.

While the Congress remains undecided on its contestant for the Bhabhua seat, Quadri said the Mahagathbandhan will fight the bypolls under Tejashwi's leadership.

"We will decide on it soon after consultation with our central leaders," he said, adding that the JD (U) not contesting any of the seats was likely to boost Mahagathbandhan's prospects in the bypolls.

A faction of the Congress leaders have taken exception to Quadri's statement on accepting Tejashwi's leaders hip while RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav is behind the bars and said those matters will be decided by the party high command.

The NDA is yet to announce the contestants on any of the seats.
