DMK working president MK Stalin in the early hours of Wednesday wrote a moving poem to his late father and party chief M Karunanidhi asking, “Shall I call you as Appa (father) for once, Thalaivare (leader)?”.

In the poem shared on his Twitter page, Stalin wrote he had always addressed him as the leader more often. “I have addressed you as Thalaivare more than Appa. Therefore, just once, shall I address you as Appa, leader,” Stalin said Kalaignar (as Karunanidhi is called) would always inform him before leaving to anywhere. “Why you left us without informing?” he said, noting that the leader was in his heart, body, soul and mind.

Stalin, who will succeed in Karunanidhi in the party, wondered if the leader had departed with the contentment that he had done enough for the Tamil community. “You asked us to write in your grave ‘The man who worked without rest finally rests here! Have you finally taken rest from service of Tamil diaspora?” he wrote.

Stalin said he would fulfil all the dreams of the DMK chief if he would for once state “En anbu udanpirappukkale (my dear brothers)” that would give us energy for another hundred years. Karunanidhi would always start his speech with “my dear brothers” which would evoke a big round of applause in response from the cadres.

Earlier, the DMK Working President had appealed to cadres to remain calm and to follow discipline in “this hour of grief”.

Stalin urged the cadres, who have been thronging the Kauvery Hospital ever since Karunanidhi was admitted there on July 28, to disperse in a peaceful manner as the doctors had treated his father to the best of their ability for nearly two years. “I appeal to party office-bearers to ensure that the cadres disperse in a peaceful manner,” he said. Stalin asked the cadres not to indulge in any activity that would bring a bad name to the deceased leader and not damage public property.

He cautioned them those anti-social elements would try to take advantage of the situation and said party workers should identify such people and hand them over to police. Hailing DMK’s ‘military-like discipline’, Stalin said it was the duty of the cadres to offer full support to the cops on duty.
