Yogi Adityanath’s oath-taking ceremony ceremony was a star-studded affair with even opposition leaders turning up (except Mayawati). The major talking point of the affair was when PM Modi and SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav shared a few words and almost everyone wanted to know what they had said to each other. If a report in Telegraph is to believed, it was something of a PTA meeting with the parent asking the teacher to 'look after' the student.

A senior BJP politician who was present at the venue and caught snatches of the conversation told the newspaper that Mulayam told Modi: “Thoda Akhilesh ka khayal rakhiye (Please take care of Akhilesh)." After Akhilesh shook hands with PM Modi, Mulayam said to him: “Inko sikhaiye (Teach him please)." The BJP source said that he reckoned that Mulayam was asking Modi to teach Akhilesh the intricacies of politics, and Modi didn’t disappoint and patted Akhilesh on his right shoulder.

The bonhomie was in stark contrast to a bitter campaign. In his rallies, Modi had ridiculed the opposition alliance of SP and Congress, saying they together stood for 'SCAM' (Samajwadi, Congress and Mayawati). Not to be outdone, Akhilesh came out with his own take on SCAM, saying it stood for 'Save Country from Amit (Shah) and Modi'. His remark asking megastar Amitabh Bachchan not to endorse "donkeys of Gujarat also left the BJP fuming, with Modi hitting back at the chief minister.
