RTA official has 7 flats, roomful of gold, silver and 20 lakh cash, finds ACB

A Road Transport Authority employee in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur has managed to amass as much wealth to own seven apartments and a house, a room full of silver items weighing 60 kg, one kg of gold articles and Rs 20 lakh in cash, reports NDTV

These details transpired after Anti-Corruption Bureau officials raided just one of the RTA employee Purnachandra Rao house.

The 55 year old's 34 years of service began from being Motor Vehicle Inspector in 1981 to finally RTA or Road Transport Authority in Guntur, Ongole and Nellore.

His immovable assets include seven apartments and two houses in Vinukonda, one house in Guntur, 2 flats in Hyderabad and Vijayawada each, and a mill to process pulses in Vinukonda. The value of his assets is Rs 3 crore while the market value of assets found in his Guntur house is over Rs 25 crore, said officials.

A case has been against him by the ACB for assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

In another case of disproportionate assets, an India Air Force and a former Member of Parliament who represented the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. According to the probe agency the retired air force officials allegedly helped the former Parliamentarian to acquire agricultural land in south-west Delhi's Najafgarh area which has recently seen a surge in land investments real estate development.

The charges against the accused also include that the two men, with the help of a Delhi based bank manager, allegedly amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income during 2007 to 2012. The total amount of money involved in the case is to the tune of approximately Rs 12 crore.
