Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has been getting a lot a praise of late for coming to the rescue of passengers in distress. Actress Renuka Shahane was the latest to thank him when her SOS tweet got a prompt response by the authorities.
On October 22, Shahane, known for acting in iconic films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!, Masoom amongst many others, tweeted asking for medical assistance for the ailing sister of her husband, actor Ashutosh Rana.

Soon, other Twitter users also began retweeting it, with suggestions as to who Shahane needed to tag to get the required help. This caught the attention of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Mumbai and Delhi as well as the Railway Ministry, who swung into action.

Before long, a doctor arrived to help the passenger. Speaking to The Financial Express, Kamini Gupta, Shahane's sister-in-law, said,"All of a sudden, I experienced palpitations followed by pain in the chest. I asked fellow passengers to see if a ticket checker or other railway staffers were around, and contacted my family in Mumbai. Fortunately, we were just minutes away from Kota station where doctors treated me. I was given medicines and told to relax. I’m alright now."
When the issue was resolved, Renuka Shahane tweeted her gratitude in response.
Thank you so much @sureshpprabhu @RailMinIndia @drmdelhi @drmmumbaicr @CMSDelhi A doctor attended to my sis-in-law; she's feeling better

She even posted a message on Facebook.
"Today my eldest sister in law while traveling on a train alone from Delhi to Mumbai suddenly started feeling unwell. There was no TC in sight & no doctor around either. I tweeted her details to our Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu ji & also tagged the Rail Ministry about her predicament. I am so grateful to all the people who not only re-tweeted my distress message but also gave me valuable advise about whom to tag. Within 15 minutes the Rail Ministry had responded & sent a medical officer to look after my sister-in-law. This is the kind of prompt action we need for good governance. I thank our Minister Suresh Prabhu and his entire team for working tirelessly & helping people promptly. I'm deeply grateful. My sister-in-law is resting & I'm resting easy. Thank you."
Later, Suresh Prabhu himself, reached out.

From arranging wheelchairs to providing milk, passengers seem to be impressed with the Railway authorities making use of social media to reach out to passengers in need. Let's hope the good work continues!
