Maharana Pratap Singh known as one of the greatest warriors  was born on May 9, 1540. Today is the 478th birth anniversary of the legendary king of Mewar, Maharana Pratap.

Here are 10 facts about one of the greatest Rajput warrior: 

1. Maharana Pratap was the eldest son of Maharana Udai Singh and Maharani Jaiwanta Bai.

2. Maharana Pratap was the only Rajput king who refused to surrender to the Mughal Emperor Akbar.

3. Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar in modern day Rajasthan, is known for his bravery and courage and there are people who still worship. 

4. Rajput king stood tall at 7 feet and 5 inches and weigh around 110 kilograms.

5.Maharana Pratap carried a 80 kg spear and two swords with him and also wear an armour that weigh around 72 kgs. He would weight around 208 kg in total.

6. Maharana Pratap had total 11 wives, 5 daughters and 17 sons. His first wife were his best friend who fell in love before getting married.

7. The Rajput king is mainly popular for his brace battle against the Mughals in the Battle of Haldighati.

8. Maharana sent his son Amar Singh to the Mughals court to deny Akbar's peace treaty. This angered Akbar and thus the battle of Haldighatti was fought.

9. When he lost the Battle of Haldighati, he refused to surrender and fled from the scene wounded.

10. Maharana Pratap spent most of his life in the city of Chavand and rebuilt his capital there. A memorial has been built in his name in Rajasthan's Chawand village.
