A city court on Tuesday extended the remand of four accused in the Burdwan blast case.

Rezaul Karim, an alleged operative of banned Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror outfit, was remanded to NIA custody till 21st of this month on a prayer by it for further interrogation. Chief Judge of Bankshall Court Md Mumtaz Khan remanded other accused Sahanur Alam, and Safiqul Islam to NIA custody till January 17 while the third accused Rafiqul Islam was given judicial custody till January 17.

All of them were in NIA custody and the agency sought their further custody in order to question them for fresh lead on others involved in the case in which alleged international jihadi links have come to the fore. A total of 12 persons, some of whom are Bangladeshi citizens, have so far been arrested in connection with the case. An accidental blast at Burdwan town on October two that killed two persons revealed an IED manufacturing unit of alleged Bangladeshi terror outfit JMB. Though the state agencies were initially investigating the case, the Centre handed over the investigation to NIA.
