Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)) leader D Raja on Monday said religious conversions carried out by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) linked groups is dangerous and unacceptable.

"Conversion, reconversion, 'Ghar vapsi' and building temple in Ayodhya, all these issues are not isolated issues, these incidents are not isolated incidents. They want to present India as Hindutva nation, Hindu rashtra, this is highly dangerous and not acceptable," Raja told ANI.

Raja also alleged that RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and other right wing factions of trying to polarize people on the lines of religion.

"It is very clear that RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Rashtra Sena and such organizations are working in a co ordinate effort. They are trying to rake up issues that can communalize the whole situation and polarize people," he added.

Last week, around 200 people were reportedly converted to Hinduism in a ceremony in Agra by groups linked to the BJP's ideological mentor RSS.

Bajrang Dal and Dharam Jagran Manch, the groups that performed the mass conversions, reportedly claimed that the families were originally Hindus and converted to Islam around 30 years ago.

The issue had led to an uproar in the Parliament by the opposition parties who demanded an explanation from the government.
