The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday granted relief to actor Salman Khan in blackbuck poaching case by staying the conviction order passed by the trial court on April 10, 2006. Justice Nirmal Jeet Kaur, after hearing the counsels of the actor and the state government said that the conviction order against Salman Khan would remain stayed till further order.

The actor was convicted in two cases of poaching black bucks on the intervening night of October 1 and 2 in 1998 in Mathania and Kankani near Jodhpur. His sentence was suspended by the high court later on and he was released on bail. But since he is convicted, his visa was rejected by the UK government where he was supposed to go for a film shoot.

Khan’s counsel and senior advocate Lekharaj Mehta argued in the court that being an actor, he has to visit several countries and the court has already granted him permission for the same.

He informed the court that the immigration laws of some of the countries do not allow convicts to visit. Mehta urged the court to stay the conviction order or pass any appropriate direction which can help him fly overseas.

Besides Khan, actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were accused of poaching near Jodhpur during the shooting of the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.
