The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday slammed the Delhi Government for their decision to reintroduce the Odd-even scheme in April, saying that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Government was doing it for "cheap publicity".

Asserting that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Government was uncertain about the objective of introducing the scheme, BJP leader Vijendra Gupta said that it was all a 'cosmetic display'.

"They should first make it clear whether they are doing it to reduce congestion or pollution. The government is unable to decide what they want to do. They are not clear as to what the objective is," he told ANI.

"If they say people are with them, then why are they not impolementing it on a permanent basis. They are doing all this for cheap publicity," he added.

Amid overwhelming response by the people to reintroduce the Odd-Even formula, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced that the next phase of this scheme would be implemented for 15 days from April 15 this year.

He said that extensive surveys and data collection were done before arriving at this decision, adding that majority of the people wanted the scheme to be implemented on a permanent basis. He, however, said that the scheme cannot be implemented on a permanent basis until the public transport system of the city improves.

The Odd-Even formula, aimed at curbing air pollution, was implemented on a trial basis from January 1-15 in the first phase. Under the formula, odd-numbered four-wheelers were allowed to ply on odd dates and even-numbered vehicles on even dates.
