The Chief Minister had faced a lot of criticism from all corners when Sofa and AC installed for his visit to another martyr's house in Deoria district in May, 2017.

Despite a stern warning by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to not make any unnecessary arrangements during his visit, the Gorakhpur administration rolled out red carpet, put up a brand new sofa and a cooler when the CM visited the house of martyred CRPF jawan on Saturday.

On a two-day visit to his Lok Sabha constituency and hometown Gorakhpur, CM Adityanath on Saturday met family members of Sahab Shukla, a CRPF jawan who was killed in an operation in Kashmir. He handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh to the family members and assured the family of jobs and government help.

Despite his warning and claims of ending VIP culture in Uttar Pradesh, a red carpet was rolled out on the road leading to martyred jawan's house, a brand new saffron-coloured sofa, towels and chairs were put up and a cooler was installed to make his stay into the house comfortable.

The Chief Minister had faced a lot of criticism from all corners when Sofa and AC installed for his visit to another martyr's house in Deoria district in May, 2017. Soon after the incident, Yogi had ordered not to make any such arrangements during his visits.

"He talks of simplicity and leading a life of saint even after becoming the chief minister. But after Deoria incident is repeated again in Gorakhpur, there seems to be a huge gap in what he preaches and what he practices. It seems he does not have any control over state administration. Rolling out red carpet and installing coolers and sofas only make a mockery of martyr's family whom he met to share their grief," quipped Sunidhi Chauhan, a Samajwadi Party leader.

Unfortunately, during his 25-minute visit to the martyr's house, Yogi enjoyed the red carpet, sat on the saffron-coloured special sofa before the cooler and used towels, but did not utter on why his orders were disobeyed.

The BJP on the other hand has again termed the red carpet welcome as over-enthusiasm of local administration. "We will look on whose orders these unnecessary arrangements were made," said BJP General Secretary Vijay Pathak.

Vipism continues

Yogi Adityanath claimed to have ended VIP culture in Uttar Pradesh after taking office as the Chief Minister.

However, when he was treated like a VIP during his visit to a CRPF martyr’s house, he didn’t oppose.
