While the Supreme Court has ruled out the nation-wide ban against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie Padmaavat, Rajput Karni Sena founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi said on Friday that he is ready to take bullets and get arrested for stopping the release of Padmaavat on January 25. He further appealed all political parties and social organisations to observe curfews at theatres to disallow people from watching the movie.
Speaking with reporters in Mumbai, Kalvi said: "I have also received threats from Pakistan; these don't scare me. I'll make an appeal to all political parties and social organisations in India to impose a 'janta curfew' at theatres.
Speaking on the SC direction, Kalvi said: "We respect the SC ruling, but nothing assumes more importance than people's court in a democracy. Only three people from the Censor board watched the film. A pre-censor board should be formed to review Indian historical movies."
He added: "Changing the name of the movie from Padmaavati to Padmaavat is not the solution. Our objection is to the way the film was made. There is a provision under section 6 of the Cinematography Act, which allows for a film to be banned; I appeal the Prime Minister and the President to ban it."
The Rajput community has been opposing the movie, citing distortion of facts. These claims have, however, been overruled, claiming instead that it has been made keeping in mind the pride and honour of the Rajput queen in question.
