The association that manages the affairs of the gentlemen’s game lives up to its reputation of being the hotbed of political controversy. The fresh one is related to Jaipur Development Authority cancelling the allotment of land to Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The roughly 18 hectare land at Chonp village some 25 km from Jaipur was allotted to RCA in 2013 for construction of a world class stadium.

The cancellation order issued by the JDA cites ‘non compliance of terms and conditions of allotment’ as the reason for the cancellation. The association was supposed to have organised an inetnational match in the stadium within five years of allotment, however construction has not yet started at the spot. The decision to cancel the allotment has not gone well with the current president of RCA and Congress stalwart, CP Joshi. He has questioned the intent of the government and urged Union minister of sports Rajyavardhan Rathore to intervene and get the decision changed. Incidentally the land falls Rathore’s constituency, Jaipur Rural.

“The state needs a world class stadium. Major time that has lapsed has been of Lalit Modi tenure. We expect the government to review its decision,” he said speaking to DNA.

“The union minister of sports represents the area where the stadium was to come up. He is an Olympian and understands the need of world class sporting infrastructure. He is from the state and must intervene and initiate a review,” Joshi added. Joshi also went on to flay the state government, “So much talk about promoting sports and tourism and the ground action so contrary to talk,” he said.

Incidentally, Joshi who had been MP from the same constituency that Rathore now represents and the land also falls under the same. The cancellation has handed Joshi a chance to score political score too.
