A 32-year-old woman attempted self-immolation along with her family outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aityanath on Sunday, accusing BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of gang rape.

Security personnel at the CM's 5 Kalidas Marg residence foiled her attempt at suicide. The woman has alleged that the MLA from Bangarmau in Unnao district, and his brother had raped her around a year ago. She said she has lodged many complaints against them but no action has been initiated against the duo.

The woman further alleged that instead of taking action against the MLA, the Unnao police lodged fake cases against her and harassed her family. "I and my whole family are facing constant life threats from the MLA and his goons," she charged.

She also claimed to have met Chief Minister Adityanath to seek justice. "I will commit suicide along with my family if the accused are not arrested immediately," she said.

Rajiv Krishan, ADG Lucknow, confirmed she had lodged a case with Bangarmau police and approached court. "We have directed Unnao police to transfer the case to Lucknow so her charges can be probed afresh," he said.

On the direction of the ADG, the Gautampalli Police Station has registered her complaint. "I assured the family that action will be taken if the charges are found to be true," Krishan said.

Denying the allegation, Sengar said, "This is a pre-planned incident. There was an incident in their family, a case was registered. Police saved two innocent people being scapegoated by them. These people thought I helped them and they haven't left any platform to defame me. I request the administration to probe this and punish the real culprit."

2ND CASE IN A WEEK

  • Last Monday, another woman, from Barabanki, tried to self-immolate at the UP CM’s house, to protest ‘weak’ charges pressed by the police against people who had allegedly raped her. She was rushed to hospital with 60% burn injuries.
