Income Tax report on meat exporter Moin Qureshi may not contain records of direct conversation of the Central Bureau of Investigation chief Ranjit Sinha with Qureshi, but the two are very good friends and often met at Sinha's official residence at 2 Janpath along with former CBI chief A P Singh.

Singh, currently member of the Union Public Service Commission, as per the daily visitor's diary maintained at the residence of Sinha, exclusively reported by dna last month, has visited 2 Janpath at least seven times between April and August 2014. And on August 2 and 8, both Qureshi and Singh visited Sinha's residence separately. Qureshi has visited the residence of Sinha at least 90 times in between May 2013 to August 2014.

Attorney general, Mukul Rohatgi on Friday informed the Supreme Court that IT report discloses 'astonishing state of affairs between Qureshi and former CBI director AP Singh.' But there were no conversations held between Sinha and Qureshi. Both Singh and Sinha have maintained that Qureshi is their family friend and they know each other for many years now.

Even though the Central Bureau of Investigation chief Ranjit Sinha had no direct conversation with meat exporter Moin Qureshi as per the Income Tax report submitted in the Supreme Court, the duo along with former CBI chief AP Singh were constantly meeting at Sinha's official residence.

Sinha had also written to CBDT, asking the I-T department to share information of its findings to investigate Qureshi's alleged links with CBI officials.

"There is no case against Mr Qureshi. IT has made some adverse comments about me and we all know why they are doing this. Let us not go into that," Singh told dna. However, he was quick to add, "It is all false and unfounded. I have faith in the Supreme Court."

The I-T department had raided Qureshi's offices and residence in February this year and had sent notices to Singh as well after the controversial exchange of BBMs (BlackBerry Messages) between the two surfaced. Qureshi runs one of his offices from the basement of Singh's residence in Defence Colony.

Qureshi, originally from Kanpur, has made 16 visits to 2 Janpath, between May 2013 and December 2013. The remaining 74 were made between January and August 2014, after he got into trouble with the I-T department. In fact, the finance ministry had suggested an SIT probe on Qureshi, but it got immersed under the I-T department's active investigation.

The political influence of Qureshi could be gauged by the fact that Narendra Modi, during Lok Sabha election campaign, had alleged that Qureshi has close links with 10 Janpath.
