Team India’s World Cup skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni may be the authoritative figure on the field, but off the field he has to live by the rules laid down by the authority as he found out in his hometown of Ranchi, in Jharkhand.

Police said on Tuesday that Dhoni was fined Rs 450 for violating traffic rules. Dhoni’s offence: he had affixed the front registration plates on the mudguard of one of his mobikes, described as a “technical violation”, as per media reports.

Mahi, as he is fondly referred to by his fans, has a collection of bikes and SUV's, a Yamaha Rx, Hellcat X 132, Yamaha RXZ, Kawasaki ZX Ninja, Harley Davidson, Yamaha Thundercat, Enfield, Ducati 1098, Yamaha Rd 350, TVS Dirt, TVS Apache and Hero Kanzama among his bikes and a Mitsubishi Outlander, Mahindra Scorpio, Pajero, Toyota Corolla, Maruti Swift, Hummer H2, GMC Sierra, Maruti SX4, Land Rover, Freelander and an Audi Q7 SUV among his four-wheelers.

Dhoni was spotted riding his light green Bullet on the streets of Ranchi and the bike which had no number plate didn't go unnoticed by the Ranchi Police.

On March 15, Ranchi Police launched a drive against unregistered and missing number plates in the state capital, and decided that Dhoni should be fined in spite of his celebrity status.

Kartik S, Ranchi SP (traffic) confirmed that Dhoni's Bullet had no number plate.

Dhoni on the other hand had already left the city in order to lead the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 8, which commences on Wednesday.

Dhoni’s brother-in-law Gautam Gupta paid the fine amount to the police on behalf of the celebrity cricketer on Tuesday evening.

Dhoni who arrived in Ranchi on April 4 with his wife Sakshi and new-born daughter Jiva, ironically lent his support to the drive against unregistered and missing number plates, that was initiated by the Ranchi Police.
