London Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt on Wednesday said that he was entitled to his opinion, and that he had nothing against Gurmehar Kaur, the daughter of  Capt Mandeep Singh, who was martyred during the 1999 Kargil War.

In an interview with ANI, Dutt said that he wasn’t against Kaur. “ I respect her, she is the daughter of a Shaheed. I just have a different view,” he said.

Dutt questioned Kaur’s May 2016 video where she said that she was fighting for peace between India and Pakistan. During the course of that video, Kaur raised a placard that said, “Pakistan did not kill my father. War did.”

“If Pakistan did not kill our soldiers, then who did? We were fighting a war against Pakistan weren't we?” questioned Dutt.

Dutt, along with former India cricketer Virender Sehwag, and fellow-wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat were critical of Kaur’s posts. While Sehwag put up a picture parodying the war placard, Dutt shared a meme comparing Kaur to Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler.

Sehwag had earlier on Wednesday clarified his stance, saying he wasn’t targeting Kaur, and even condemned the threats of rape that she had received.
