I don't need to prove my nationalism, says Kargil martyr's daughter Gurmehar Kaur.
Amid ongoing row over a social media campaign run by a Kargil martyr's daughter on the violent clashes in Delhi University's Ramjas College, BJP MP from Mysore's Kodagu constituency compared her with the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim on Monday.
In a post on Twitter, BJP MP Pratap Simha compared her with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts mastermind and underworld don and said that Dawood Ibrahim did not use the crutches of his father's name to justify his anti-national stand.
Simha posted an image of Kargil martyr's daughter Gurmehar Kaur holding a placard that read "Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him', along with a photo of Dawood holding a placard that read 'I did not kill people in 1993, bombs killed them.'
Gurmehar Kaur had changed her Facebook profile picture to a photo of herself holding a placard which read "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP".
"The brutal attack on innocent students by ABVP is very disturbing and should be stopped. It was not an attack on protesters, but an attack on every notion of democracy that is held dear in every Indian's heart. It is an attack on ideals, morals, freedom and rights of every person born to this nation," she said in a Facebook post.
Kaur has also claimed that she received rape threats on social media for initiating the social media campaign. However, she said that she will not be scared or be cowed down.
Speaking to ANI, Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh and a student of Lady Sri Ram College, said, "Whether it is ABVP or any other organisation, no one has a right to take law and order into hands. I will not be scared or be cowed down, my father took a bullet for the country and I am also ready to take bullet for the country."
Stating that the stones were not pelted on Umar Khalid and he was not even present, she added, "stones were pelted on students who were there."
"I love my country and I also love my fellow students and I support their right to freedom of speech," she said.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday asked who was polluting the young girl's mind.
