Sunday passed off peacefully in Ayodhya with over a hundred Hindu seers at the VHP-sponsored Dharmsabha demanding from the Central government a legislation to clear the path for the construction of a grand temple for Lord Ram.

As an icing on the cake, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath has announced to build a 151-metre-tall statue of Lord Ram (total height 221 metres including the pedestal) on the bank of Saryu river in the town.

Over 50,000 Ram worshippers had gathered at the Bade Bhaktmal Ki Bagiya in Karsevakpuram to listen to the seers at the congregation, estimated officials. But the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) put the figure at over 3 lakh.

Setting the tone of Dharmsabha, VHP's international general secretary Champat Rai said that no formula dividing the disputed land will be acceptable as Hindus want entire the 2.77 acres for the 'Ram Mandir'. He said, "Nothing less is acceptable to Hindus." Several top seers posed faith in the stewardship of PM Narendra Modi and Adityanath, as Chanting of mantras filled the air.

"We are confident that the BJP will make our dream of a grand Ram Mandir come true. It was due to Bhagwan Ram's blessings that it rose from a mere two seats to secure a majority in the Centre, in UP and so many states.

The government should not wait for the court's decision and start construction of the temple. We are sure that Modiji will begin the construction before the 2019 elections itself. A deed that will make him immortal," said the seers amid the loud thunder of Jai Shri Ram.

Countering Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's 'Khumbhakarna' jibe at PM Modi, Swami Ramabhadracharya of Tulsipeeth said, "I have been told by a senior minister that a big announcement will be made regarding Ram Mandir after December 11. The government has been keeping quiet because of model code of conduct is in force due to elections in five states."

At the Dharmsabha, assembled Karsevaks and Ram worshippers were made to take a solemn oath before leaving. "Remembering Purushottam Ram ji, Hanuman ji, Mata Sita ji and our ancestors, we resolve today that we will not let the fire for the construction of a Bhavya Mandir die down. We will continue to tread the path shown by the saints and will not stop until Rm Mandir is constructed," it said.

Some prominent names among the seers who took an active part in Dharmsabha were Jagadguru Ramanandacharya, Swami Rambhadracharya of Tulsipeeth Chitrakoot, Mahant Ravindra Puri of Mahanirvani Akhara Haridwar, Mahant Suresh Das of the Digambar Akhada, head of the Ram Janmabhoom Trust Mahant Nritya Gopal Das and Swami Gyananad Giri from Odisha.

The Uttar Pradesh administration had deployed a huge posse of security forces, drones and barricades to avoid violence. Any untoward incident, BJP sources said, could give bad publicity to the government that has so far ensured peaceful administration.
