The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), the ideological fountainhead of the BJP, on Friday expressed confidence that the Ram temple will be constructed in Ayodhya by the time of next 'Kumbh' in 2025. It is for the first time the Sangh has come out with a date for construction of Ram Temple.

Stating that India's progress has happened after the construction of Somnath Temple in Gujarat in 1952, RSS sarkaryavah (general secretary) Bhaiyyaji Joshi said construction of Ram Temple at the birthplace of Lord Ram should be completed by 2025 and the construction of the temple will "secure" the country's future.

Speaking at an event on the sidelines of Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Joshi, who is considered the RSS' second-in-command said, "It is our desire that a grand Ram Temple should be ready by 2025. If the construction begins now, it will take five years to complete."

"With the construction of Somnath Temple in Gujarat in 1952, India moved forward on the path of progress. Similarly, after the construction of Ram Temple in 2025 at the birthplace of Lord Ram, the country's progress will accelerate," he said.

"Ram Temple is the centre of India's soul. It is the symbol of faith for crores of Hindus," he said.

It could be noted that the RSS has been trying to pressurise the BJP government at the Centre to bring an Ordinance for the construction of Ram Temple. In a recent interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, had said that an ordinance on Ram temple can only be brought after the Supreme Court ruling.

Bhaiyyaji's statement came on a day when Vishva Hindu Parishad adopted two resolutions – one on Sabarimala issue and the other on the "conspiracies" against the Hindus – at the meeting of its central managing committee and board of trustees. VHP representatives from about two dozen countries participated in the meeting. During the meeting, the VHP members discussed the problems being faced by the Hindu communities across the world and their possible solutions.

Calling Sabarimala as the Ayodhya of the South, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal while speaking to DNA said, "The VHP stands with Sabarimala devotees. We are against the sinister design to alter the traditions at Sabarimala."

On January 31 and February 1, the VHP is holding a grand Dharma Sansad, to be attended by more than 1,000 seers from across the country, where the Hindu body will chalk out its next course of action on Ayodhya.
The Supreme Court will hear the Ram Temple-Babri Mosque title dispute case on January 29.
