Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on saturday took an aerial view of flood affected areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

"I have asked Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister to utilize State disaster fund, which includes 90% contribution from the Centre, for rescue work. The situation is extremely bad. Around 83 have been reported to be dead and over 400 villages are submerged in flood waters," Singh told ANI.

Earlier, Singh had also assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir of complete support of the central government. "I want to assure the people of the state that central government stands with them. The Prime Minister has promised an amount of 2 lakhs for the surviving kin of the dead and 50 thousand for the injured," he said.

"Till now, the NDRF has been able to rescue more than 100 people. High level of awareness is needed after the water resides because of fear of diseases," he added.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has moved two teams from Bathinda, to Srinagar and Jammu for rescue and relief work in flood affected areas in the state.

The floods and landslides in the state have taken the total death toll to at least 111, with around 70 people left dead on Friday, according to media reports. Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts in South Kashmir have been the worst hit due to the disaster.

Incessant rains have also resulted in mud slides, flash floods and rising of water level in all rivers of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving thousands of people stranded across the state.

Two NDRF teams from Bathinda were also air-lifted to Srinagar on Friday.
