Picking up the thread where Prime Minister Narendra Modi left it on the Independence Day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh struck the right chords in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday by expressing the readiness to meet anyone with an open mind.

The bonhomie, however, was marred after a policeman lost his life while two others were injured in a terrorist attack in Anantnag.

Minutes before embarking on 'Mission Kashmir', Singh had tweeted: "I am going there with an open mind and I am willing to meet anyone who will help us in finding solutions to the problems facing J&K."

People seemed to have received the message well, and unlike in the past, made a beeline to meet the minister.

"Tourism is the only viable industry in Kashmir. This industry needs peace, which is not there. TV channels also portray Kashmir in a very negative light, further alienating Kashmiris from the people living in rest of India. We have urged the Home Minister to look into the matter so that confidence of tourists and service providers is restored," Rauf Tramboo, President of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of Kashmir, said.

Earlier upon his arrival, Singh had a one-on-one meeting with J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The two leaders discussed the overall situation, implementation of the Agenda of Alliance (AoA), and execution of the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) in the state.

The CM impressed the need to reach out to all sections of society in the state.

"The needs and problems of the people of the state have been recognised in the AoA and its implementation needs to be fast paced," she said.

The CM and Singh reviewed the implementation of Rs 80,000 crore PMDP. He also impressed upon the officers of the state and Central governments to work in a coordinated manner for timely implementation of projects under the PMDP.

Mufti then sought regular and timely release of funds to the state. "Given the limited working season and harsh winters in the state, these releases have to fast-paced," she said.

Later, the Home Minister tweeted: "Reviewed the progress of implementation of the PMDP. The Centre is monitoring the progress on a regular basis. I have asked the authorities to expedite the implementation of projects in a time-bound manner. It will create jobs for the people of J&K."
