Rajnath Singh holds security meet to plan Kashmir Valley's new security policy

As the process for governor's rule is initiated in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday called a high-level meeting with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Rajiv Jain and Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba to assess the ground law-and-order situation in the state. In the meeting, the Centre has decided to formulate a new security policy for the valley while the Army resumes full-fledged operations. Special Secretary (Internal Security) Rina Mitra and Joint Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir were also in attendance.

Even as the officials remained tight-lipped on the political crisis, they confirmed that in light of the upcoming Amarnath yatra, they had met to discuss the law and order situation.

After the PDP-BJP alliance fell apart and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tendered her resignation, Gauba said that the ministry would undertake the necessary formalities to initiate Governor's rule in the valley. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is concerned about the security of the state as an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Tral area of Pulwama district ended with the death of two terrorists and an injured CRPF personnel.

Earlier in the day, Doval met BJP chief Amit Shah where they reportedly discussed the security measures being taken in the strife-torn state.
