CBI today opposed in a TADA court the petition of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case death row convict AG Perarivalan seeking investigation into 'left out' areas of the earlier probe into the case.

In its counter, CBI submitted that Perarivalan did not have any locus standi to file the petition since the Supreme Court has already heard and disposed of his appeals. Perarivalan, lodged in the Vellore prison, has filed a petition seeking to call and peruse the entire case dairies, pertaining to CBI and its Multi Disciplinary Monitoring Agency, which probed the case, and further investigation into 'left out areas'. The court had on September 20 issued notice to the CBI.

When the matter came up for hearing today before First Additional Sessions Judge Dandapani for TADA cases, the CBI submitted that Perarivalan was not the affected party to file this petition. He had also prayed the court to effectively monitor enumerated aspects of investigation carried out by MDMA. The Judge posted the matter to October 31.
