Actor Rajinikanth will announce his political entry and put an end to all speculations before December 31, said activist Tamilaruvi Manian after his 90-minute meeting with the actor on Friday.

"When he meets his fans from December 26 to 31, he will make an announcement of his political entry on any one of the day. Mostly, he will announce on December 31," said Tamilaruvi Manian who founded Gandhia Makkal Iyakkam, a movement campaigning for prohibition.

Tamilaruvi Manian who has been closely associated with the actor lately, had helped the BJP-led NDA float a rainbow alliance comprising DMDK, MDMK and PMK in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and the alliance went on to win two seats and pushed the DMK to the third spot in seven seats.

Tamilaruvi Manian, who is a strong critic of both AIADMK and DMK told DNA that the actor will confirm his political entry but will not announce the name of the party later. "He has already begun the groundwork for launching a political party. He will announce its name at the appropriate time," he said.

Rajinikanth's announcement of political entry comes after his colleague and friend actor Kamal Haasan confirmed that he will join politics.

When asked what would be the ideology of his party, he said that he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the actor. To a question on whether the actor would join hands with the BJP, he said that the actor was close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah but that does not mean he would make an alliance with them. "He will decide on the alliance at an appropriate time," he said.

Though the speculation of Rajinikanth's possible political entry is over two-decades old, the latest round began when he addressed his fans on the first day of his five-day meet and greet to take an individual photo with his die-hard fans in Chennai on May 15. The actor told his fans that he has no political aspirations, but "If God wills it, I will enter politics tomorrow." On the last day, the actor who hails from Karnataka asserted that he "is a pure Tamil, you have made me a Tamil." He went on to tell his fans that he will call them when "there is a war. You come then."

Strangely, the normally reclusive actor was meeting a cross-section of people from actors to politicians of different shades. All who meet Rajinikanth made one thing very clear — that the actor was seriously considering politics
