Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Friday welcomed his contemporary and friend Kamal Haasan's political entry saying that their paths and styles may be different but the "goal is same."

"Kamal Haasan's public meeting was good, I watched it. Our paths & styles may be different but our goal is same, that is doing good for people," Rajinikanth said.

While Haasan launched his party Makkal Neethi Mayyam in Madurai Tuesday, Rajinikanth had announced in December that he will enter politics.

Haasan had held a "secret" meetings with Rajinikanth ahead of his party's launch.

Writing in his weekly series in Tamil magazine 'Ananda Vikatan' yesterday, Haasan, however, did not reveal when the meeting happened.

Haasan has registered his party with the Election Commission and will hold a public meeting of Makkal Neethi Maiyam in Tiruchirappally on April 4.

While speaking at the launch of the party, for which Haasan has "picked ideologies from everyone", the politician said he had kept his party's name 'Maiam' (Centre) because he did not belong to either Left or Right.

"People ask me what is Maiam, and if I am a Left or a Right. This is why I have kept my party's name 'Maiam', which means centre. The six hands in my party symbol represent six states and the star in the middle represents people," Haasan said.

Kamal also unfurled his party’s flag featuring six united hands — three each in white and red — with a white star in the middle. The flag has both Dravidian colours — red and black. The six hands in the flag stand for the six south Indian states and the star is the people, he said.
