Actor turned politician Rajinikanth on Friday said he was proud of his fans and no force could separate him from his fans after DMK's mouthpiece Murasoli questioned the actor's recent statement asking his fans not to aspire for posts in Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM), a pre-cursor forum to his political party.

"In my October 23 statement, I highlighted certain bitter truths about the functioning of Rajini Makkal Mandram. Even though it contained some hard and bitter facts, I am thankful to the fans for understanding the truth and reasoning behind it," Rajinikanth said in a statement.

Rajinikanth on Friday morning was closeted with a few top functionaries of RMM and said to have reviewed the recent bickering in a section of his fans, some of whom have been ousted from their positions and even from the organisation.

In his statement on Tuesday, the Tamil film superstar had justified action against some fan club members on disciplinary grounds and said he was committed to usher in a change in the political horizon sans the trappings of money and lure of posts. He had also recalled his assertion last year that he will never allow those eyeing money and posts in his political innings and said it was not a mere rhetoric.

The write-up was published in the DMK mouthpiece in a question and answer format under the pseudonym 'Silanthi,' meaning spider in Tamil.

Posing questions to Rajinikanth in the name of an "innocent fan" of the superstar, DMK mouthpiece asked if the actor was not really behind posts as claimed by him, he should have then started a movement on the lines of rationalist leader, the late EV Ramasamy Periyar.

"Dear leader, if your assertion that posts were not a consideration in your political entry, why did you announce that (the party) will contest from all (234 Assembly) seats in the next polls," the DMK said in its mouthpiece. Periyar had led Dravidar Kazhagam, which aggressively promoted rationalism.

WHAT DMK SAID

  • “Rajinikanth is a puppet in the hands of some persons and was being supported by communal elements.”

  • “Those speaking for you in the media are communal (elements)”.
