Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth on Sunday extended support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal of ‘One India, One Election’ even as the majority of the political parties in Tamil Nadu are opposing it.

“It (One Nation, One Election)is a good idea as it will save time and money of political parties,” Rajinikanth told reporters here after felicitating young boy Mohammed Yaseen of Erode who found a bag containing Rs 50,000 cash and handed it over to police, for his honesty.

The actor, however, said that he has not decided on contesting the next year’s Lok Sabha polls. “There is time for it. I will decide at that time of the election,” he said when asked whether he would launch his party and contest the Lok Sabha polls. When queried about when he would become a fully-fledged politician as he is continuing to act in movies, he laughed and said only time could answer it.

When asked about the proposed eight-lane Chennai-Salem Greenfield Highway project, Rajinikanth said that such big projects were necessary for the country’s development. "We need such big projects for the country’s development. Besides, it will attract new industries and create employment opportunities. Certainly, there will be opposition for such projects. But those opposing projects should be given good compensation to satisfy them and also land should be given to those who want it. It should be done in a way that farming lands are not affected as much as possible," Rajinikanth added.

Asked about Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah’s statement that there is a lot of corruption in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth evaded the question and said, “It is Shah’s views. I don’t know what information he has. You should ask him.”

Earlier, Rajinikanth appreciated young boy Yaseen for his honesty and promised to take care of his educational expenses whatever field he wants to pursue. “I will consider him to be my son,” he said. Last week, Yaseen, from a poor family, found a bag near a bush close to his residence in a village near Erode. He immediately handed it over to his school principal, who accompanied him to hand it over to the police.
