After getting clearance from the Election Commission, interviews of teaching staff at the Rajasthan University (RU) have become entangled in yet another controversy. Days before the interviews for the post of assistant professor were to be held, one of the aspirants has filed a complaint with the Governor alleging university officials of “pressurising” her to not appear in the interview scheduled for Tuesday.
In her complaint, Parul Gupta has alleged that a day before the interview she received a phone call from registrar office directing her not to appear for the interview of assistant professor in botany scheduled for Tuesday. When she contacted the registrar complaining about the call, similar directions were given.
“I have a filed complaint with the Governor demanding her immediate intervention. I received an interview letter from the university which was issued on September 13, 2013.
And now I am being told not to face the interview. Instead of issuing a letter, they are only giving verbal directions,” said Parul Gupta, who is presently teaching in a government college in Chimanpura. “I am eligible for the post as per the University Act 1974. I am NET and PhD qualified candidate and have teaching experience of 18 years in government colleges,” she added.
Contradicting Parul’s statements, university registrar OP Gupta said Parul had applied for the post of associate professor and because of a mistake made by the staff, she was issued an interview letter for post of assistant professor. “She had initially applied for the post of associate professor and wants to be entertained in the category of assistant professor. The interview letter for post of assistant professor was issued to her by mistake by our staff,” registrar of Rajasthan University said.
However, denying the registrar’s stand, the aspirant claimed that the approval was taken from the then-VC Madhukar Gupta, who took the decision after forming the committee. “I had requested the then-VC to consider me for the post of assistant professors.
Eventually, a committee was formed and later an approval was given. The approval is accompanied by the note sheet of V-C,” said Parul.
The recruitment process of the assistant professors at the Rajasthan University (RU) has been in a controversy from the very beginning. At the start itself, two members of the selection panel had boycotted the interviews after which fresh dates were issued by the authorities of the Rajasthan University. There were also reports of mistakes in the age of a candidate which the university administration said was a clerical mistake only.
