Rajasthan: Married woman, live-in partner stripped, tied to tree for two days by husband, villagers

The police have arrested fourteen people in the case, and suspended a police constable and local patwari for not reporting the incident.

A 26-year-old woman and her paramour were stripped and tied to a tree allegedly by her husband and villagers, who also posted pictures of the incident in Udaipur on social media.

The woman has been rescued on Friday, said Ghanshyam Sharma, Circle Officer of Vallabh Nagar.

Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the incident, while a police constable and local patwari suspended for not reporting it to senior authorities, Superintendent of Police, Rajendra Prasad Goyal said.

The woman, a resident of Kasotia village in the tribal area, was reportedly in a live-in relationship with Lalu Ram, a resident of Khodi Pipli Tekan village. The duo were taken hostage allegedly by the woman's husband Bhanwar Lal and locals on June 20 near Bhatevar village. They later took them to Kasotia village where the accused stripped and tied them to a tree for two days besides clicking their pictures which went viral on WhatsApp, he said.

"The woman's mother, brothers and others who went to rescue the duo were also caught and kept in a room. The family of Lalu Ram gave Rs 80,000 to the villagers to get him freed," Sharma said, adding, "The girl's family members and relatives, who were taken hostage were rescued yesterday."

"A police team was rushed to the village yesterday after the matter came to light," Goyal said, adding police constable Babulal, local Patwari Mani Lal Meghwal were suspended and an ANM, two teachers, Gram Sachiv and Asha Sahyogini (health worker) were served show cause notices.

"They were present in the village when the incident occurred but they neither stopped the villagers nor informed senior officials," he added.
