West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at state BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Monday for his comments regarding the hate murder of Md Afrazul Khan, a labourer from Malda district of Bengal who was killed in Rajasthan.

“There are so many people who had come to West Bengal from UP and Bihar and made this their place to live and work. Can I ask all of them to leave Bengal? Does Dilip Ghosh know for how long this has been going on? Aren't people like him ashamed to make such comments?” Mamata said speaking at a public meeting at Kanksa in West Burdwan district.

She said that people from Bengal who had been working in other states, if they intended to come back to Bengal out of a feeling of insecurity, the state would give them a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to set up a business. “Leaders who are mindless make such comments. People of Bengal will not forgive such persons. They will shoo them away from Bengal permanently,” she said.

Ghosh had yesterday said that if there were enough jobs in Bengal people would leave the state and such incidents would not happen at all.

Mamata refuted Ghosh’s allegations of Muslim appeasement and said, “If there has been a murder I would not want to know what was the faith of the victim. Whether he was a Hindu or a Muslim. We believe it has been a death of a human being. When we carry out a welfare project we don’t cater to any particular person. All school goers get bicycles irrespective of their religion. Girls of all religion get Kanyashree benefits. It is the job of BJP to divide people on the basis of their religion,” she said.

Mamata also warned party district president from Birbhum, Anubrata Mondal for his remarks. “If the BJP is saying something foul, we don’t need to counter that by saying something worse. It is not our culture. We will fight them politically, democratically. I have given Keshta (Mondal) a final warning saying he should not repeat such things,” she added.

Mondal, at a meeting yesterday said that if such thing had happened in Birbhum, he would have burnt the offender alive, whatever post of BJP he could be holding.
