Rajasthan hacking: 80 people who came out in support for Shambulal arrested for violating prohibitory orders

Tension remains in two districts of Rajasthan over killing of the murderer.

Tension still prevails in Udaipur and Rajsamand district in Rajasthan over a man brutally hacking and burning a migrant labour accusing him of 'love jihad'. The video went viral on the internet and shocked everyone for the brazen nature and acceptance of the crime committed by Shambhulal Regar. 

According to reports, prohibitory orders are currently in place in both districts and mobile connection has currently been snapped to prevent rumours. However, defying prohibitory orders people came out in various parts of Udaipur on Thursday and tried to disrupt law and order situation. They were protesting arrest of the alleged criminal. This lead to altercation with local police amidst stone pelting. Police lath-charged and later arrested 80 individuals for violating prohibitory orders, reports NDTV. The situation in Rajsamand, where the crime occurred remains tense but calm. 

The police is keeping a strong tab on the social media to check hate groups trying to foment communal tension in these two districts. Several hate message equating the brutal crime to retribution for 2001 Parliament attack is allegedly doing the rounds. 

Police in Rajsamand district have frozen a bank account in which 516 donors had transferred Rs 2.75 lakh for fighting the court case of Shambhulal Regar'. Two local businessmen were also arrested for allegedly circulating images on social media of receipts acknowledging their donations to the account of Regar's wife, police said.

"Rs 2.75 lakh was deposited into Sita's bank account, details of which were circulated on social media. 516 people from across the country deposited the money for fighting Regar's case. Police have frozen the account," IG (Udaipur Range) Anand Shrivastava said.

SHO, Bhim police station, Gyanendra Singh said two businessmen, Prakash Singh and Dinesh Singh, were arrested under relevant sections of the law for circulating receipts of donations on social media. The administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Rajsamand after some right-wing groups announced to take out processions in support of Regar today.

"All processions, rallies and protests have been banned and those who defy the rule of law will be dealt with accordingly," Shrivastava said. Regar, 36, had hacked Mohammed Afrazul to death and burnt the body on December 6.

Afrazul had migrated to Rajsamand from West Bengal for work. Regar had roped in his 14-year-old nephew to film the killing. After the barbaric act, Regar posted videos of the killing with inflammatory and communal comments to defend the act.
