After four Dalits were killed by Jats in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, scores of Dalits have fled their homes fearing more such clashes. Six women of the Meghwal Dalit community were injured during the clashes and they alleged that Jats had tried to rape them.

The reason behind the clash is 24 bigahs of land that was claimed by Ratnaram Meghwal, Gutaram Meghwal and Khemaram Meghwal, but disputed by the family of Chimnaram Jat.

On Thursday morning, supporters of Chimanaram Jat clashed with Dalits on the disputed land where Ratanram Meghwal's house his built, said police officer Purna Ram. When the battle intensified, Meghwal's supporters allegedly opened fire.

This in turn enraged Jats and hundreds of them gathered in the common assembly area and a war-like situation was created with the Jats armed with guns and axes rode dozens of tractors towards the disputed land. The two groups exchanged fire.

Some Dalits were mowed down with moving tractors reportedly; thirteen people were injured in the clash. They were admitted to Jawarharlal Nehru Hospital in Ajmer.

Four Dalit women being treated at the hospital in Ajmer alleged they were mercilessly beaten and molested by Jat men.

Senior Dalit leaders have said that the dead bodies of their community members will not be taken back from the mortuary until the 13 Jat men named in the FIR were arrested.

However, one of the accused men was arrested on Saturday.

"One of the accused identified as Ramkumar was arrested today while others are absconding and being searched," SP Nagaur Raghvendra Suhasa said.

Meanwhile, Home Minister of Rajasthan Gulab Chand Kataria said that the police have no magical want to arrest the accused.

"We do not have a magical want," Kataria told reporters in Udaipur when asked about the development in the case.

On the other hand, People's Union for Civil Liberties demanded a CBI inquiry in the case saying it was a case of atrocities against Dalits.

"The village panchayat wanted to grab the land of Dalits. The Dalit women were also targeted and we demand from the police to add section of rape," a PUCL statement said.
