Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Monday visited Malaseri Dungri, the birth place of Lord Devnarayan, the most revered deity of Gurjar community at Asind in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan.

CM Raje paid obeisance at the Devnarayan temple, took part in a 'mahayagya' at Malaseri and laid foundation stone for a panorama on the life of Lord Devnarayan. The deity is highly revered among the Gurjar community across India. The site is a short distance away from the famous Sawai Bhoj temple that has a footfall of lakhs of Gurjar pilgrims. Chief minister also addressed a large public rally.

The trip is being considered politically significant as Bhilwara has the largest number of Gurjar population in Rajasthan and is an important pilgrimage spot of Gurjars. It is also believed to be a fulcrum of politics in relation to the Gurjar community.

The Gurjar community is believed to be sore with the BJP over the issue of reservation in OBC category. On the other hand the Congress state president Sachin Pilot is a Gurjar thereby giving rise to a possibility that the community could sway in favour of Congress. On the other hand Raje's daughter-in-law Niharika also belongs to the Gurjar community and had campaigned in Gurjar dominated districts in the last two elections.

Chief minister Raje's trip is being seen as an effort to consolidate Gurjar vote in favour of BJP in forthcoming assembly elections. Speaking on the occasion, Raje reiterated that she and the community are relatives. She said the panorama would be made at a cost of Rs 4.25 crore. She paid homage to martyrs of the community and also informed the public that development works worth 7676 crore have been completed in the district over the last four years.

The importance of the Gurjar vote in Rajasthan politics is signified by the fact that Raje climbed 125 steps to reach the Devnarayan temple. She mentioned this in her speech, however she did not directly mention the issue of reservation.
