Rajasthan civic body polls: 1,788 candidates withdraw nominations

As many as 1,788 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for polls in 46 civic bodies scheduled for November 22, an official of the state Election Commission (RSEC) said in Jaipur.

So far 1,788 candidates have withdrawn their nominations from the poll battle, an RSEC PRO said. The PRO, however, said this figure may change as the process of tabulation after withdrawal of nominations was underway at some places in these wards.

Altogether 6,599 candidates are now left in fray for 1,696 wards of 46 civic bodies. EVM s will be used in the polls and results will be announced on November 25. Subsequently, the election of municipal chairman and mayors in six corporations will take place on November 26.

Six municipal corporations of Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur and Bharatpur, 18 municipal councils and 22 municipalities will go for polls that are taking place after five years.

Over 63.09 lakh electors will cast their votes at 6,135 polling booths in 1,696 wards. Congress and BJP have fielded their candidates in almost every ward.
