Rajasthan: Bikaner university prevents sharing girls number with boys, makes separate Whatsapp groups

The teachers fear the female students will be harassed.

While seggregating male and female students in classrooms is not uncommon, a university in Rajasthan has taken it to another level. 

Teachers from Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner, have created separate groups for boys and girls on Whatsapp where they share information about their classes, reports HT

With smartphone apps being commonly used to exchange notes and share other related information regarding studies in colleges, often class-students form groups and exchange numbers.  

In RAJUVAS, teachers have created separate Whatsapp groups for boys and girls to share information. 

Prof AK Gahlot vice chancellor of Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS) said that the university does not want to share the mobile numbers of girls with boys. 

Teachers fear that the girls would face harassment from boys. 

It was recently reported that mobile recharge operators shared phone numbers of girls to men who ended up calling and stalking them and even send obsene messages. 

Although students said they have not seen or experienced such  cases but beleived it was done as  precautionary measure.
