17-year-old coaching student from Mau city in Uttar Pradesh (UP), who was preparing to crack medical entrance exam (NEET) for admission in medical college in a premier coaching institute in Kota city was on Saturday evening stabbed to death in area falling under the Mahavir Nagar police station. His death was preceded by a scuffle that allegedly broke out between the accused and the deceased over playing cricket in Onkarashwer Park in Mahavir Nagar III. 

Within an hour of the crime, police claimed to have arrested the accused who was produced before the court that ordered him to three days of police remand. The deceased’s body was also handed over to the family members today afternoon after postmortem. The deceased has been identified as Atul Kumar Singh (17), sub-inspector at Mahavir Nagar police station Ramswroop Meena said. The deceased student had passed class 12 and had been preparing for NEET in a coaching institute in Kota for last three years, the cop said.

An unexpected scuffle with a local 20-year-old school dropout over playing cricket led to the murder of the coaching student, he added. The deceased last evening was playing cricket with his friends in Onkarashwer park in Mahavir Nagar III when around 6 o’clock a 20-year-old school dropout identified as Rahul Bhati reached the park and pulled out a knife from his pocket to bully the group of students playing cricket, the cop said. 

Bhati reportedly directed the group of students to allow him to bat a few balls and when he batted, he could not hit any of the balls of an over thrown to him. Yet, he was not ready to leave the stumps insisting on playing some more balls following which the deceased Atul Kumar Singh from the students’ group approached him and asked him to hand over the bat, he said. Bhati suddenly took out the knife from his pocket and stabbed it into left side of Atul’s chest that punctured his heart and he collapsed on the ground, the cop said, adding, he was immediately rushed to medical college hospital but the doctors declared him as brought dead.   

The accused youth Rahul Bhati, a resident of Mahavir Nagar III Extension area was arrested within an hour of the crime and the knife used for crime has also been recovered, the sub-inspector Ramswroop Meena said. He added the accused was today produced before the court that ordered him to a three-day of police remand.
